chicken noodle soup

This is one of my all-time favorite soups. Perfect for a cooler day, for those of you who are still having a chilly Spring, or ANY day in my book! This is one of those recipes that I've tweaked and tweaked until I got it just how I want it to be.

CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

2 chicken bouillon cubes (or 2 tsp. granules)
2 cans chicken broth
1 c. chopped carrots
2 c. chopped celery
1/4 c. chopped onion
1/2 (half) can cream of chicken soup
1/4 c. milk
1/2 cube (4 Tbsp.) butter
1/4 c. flour
2 c. chopped cooked chicken (2 pieces)
4-6 oz. egg noodles

Boil chicken until fully cooked. Cook egg noodles. Dissolve 2 bouillon cubes in 1 cup boiling water. Add chicken broth and vegetables to the liquid until tender. In separate bowl, whisk a half a can of cream of chicken soup and milk until smooth. Whisk soup and milk mixture into broth and vegetables. Melt butter then stir into flour. Add to soup mixture. Add chicken and noodles. Optional: Season to taste with salt & pepper or Schillings garlic & herb seasoning.

Sounds so yummy and looks so inviting on a cold snowy April 15 in Idaho. One question, is it 1/2 can of cream of chicken or is it 2 cans? ingredients and instructions don't match.

What is 1/2 cube butter? or is it supposed to be 1/2 cup? Otherwise, it looks VERY VERY YUMMY! THanks for sharing.

I just had my third baby but I am remembering back to the fall when I was first pregnant and the only thing that sounded good to me was chicken noodle soup! This looks like a great recipe too. I hope you get feeling better soon!

Someone already asked, but will you clarify the amount of cream of chicken soup. The ingredient list and directions do not say the same thing. I'm guessing the 2 cans in the direction part is supposed to be chicken broth?

Missed your recipes, but totally get it. I never felt good the first trimester either, but then the rest of the 9mo. were great~

I have been searching for a good chicken noodle recipe so I will definitely try this out.
I too have four boys but I live in Florida! I will also have to double this recipe.

I see in the directions it says 2 cans of chicken broth and further down it says 1/2 can of cream of chicken. It looks clear to me.

Thanks for posting this!

OMG! I made "the soup" this past weekend and is it ever so delish!!! There's only thing I did differently. We like our broth less concentrated, so I used the chicken stock (about 3 cups)along with the other ingredients. Soooo gooood! Thanks, Becky! You're making us look like we know how to cook! Hee.Hee.

Loved this!!

I used a whole can of cream of chicken with herbs. I didn't want to waste it and I had no idea what to do with the other half, so I doubled the milk too. I chopped the celery, carrots, and onion really large so they were still crunchy when I started eating it...just fine with me. The color is bright and fantastic and now that they've cooked more in the whole soup mixture on a low low heat, they're still just as bright and pretty. I used a local amish egg noodle that was fantastic! I think this would be great over a stiff mashed potato. Or leave out the noodles and use it for the filling of chicken pot pie! Yum!
